1:08PM - A simple update...

Well, I got a notice that I hadn't updated my journal in awhile, but the reason for that is because, I have started updating things in my life via myspace, but for those of you, who still check this, I thought I would give you an update on what has been going on in the life of little ol' JoshMan Miles.

Well, lets see...I guess the first big event is, I have finished my first year at WWU and I must say it was an extroardinary learning experience both, psychologically and physically. I learned a lot academically and socially. I had a lot of realizations this past year, which really helped open my eyes to a lot of things and helped me learn to deal with life and all that it throws my way.

I also met a lot of interesting people, which was a big help in opening my eyes and seeing the world in another light. I met some awesome artists, while also becoming good friends with a group of girls, who were again a big part of what I learned about life in general. From what I am told, I touched a lot of peoples lives, just as they all touched me in someway. (I know that sounds sorta wrong.)

I also playing with an all mens ultimate team and I must say, it was freakin' INTENSE! However, all of the testosterone that is thrown around the field doesn't make the game as enjoyable as it is playing co-ed. However, I must say that playing men's ultimate really did open my eyes and show me how to improve in more ways than one.

Concerning the lady front, I was in a relationship for a few months back in January, however, we separated in early March, because I was getting to attached and she wasn't looking for anything serious, however, we still hang out on occasion, which is awesome, because Jamie is an awesome person.

This past quarter wasn't as successful as I would have liked to to be academically, but I know that I will be able to pull my grades up this coming school year.

Anyways, that is pretty much these past 9 months in a nutshell, so I hope for those of you who still read this, it is as enthralling to read as it was enthralling to write, hah.

Take care everyone and I will catch you all sooner than later.

6:05PM - Third times a charm...

Alright folks, it is time for yet another Cocktail Party and all are welcome. So here at the specifics.

Date: April 28th

Time: 9pm

Location: Mikelle and Nate's house.

Specifics: Since this is a moving out party, I thought it would be a perfect time to have a cocktail party and since my last cocktail/moving out party went so well, I have decided to help Nate and Mikelle throw a an all out shindig. And as most people say, third times a charm, which means that I have good feelings that this party will be awesome.

Secondly, I am asking those folks, who can purchase Hard Alcohol do so, because as we all know buying hard alcohol for a party can be pretty expensive and since I know that we are all poor starving college students, this could help keep our bank accounts looking at least decent. Also, those of your who are under age, can help out by purchasing mixers, such as Coke, Sprite, Lemons and Limes etc.

Thirdly, since this is a cocktail party, you MUST come in appropriate attire, which means you need to wear a suit or a dress. I am not going to be specific about men wearing suits and women wearing dresses, most likely as the night progresses some guys/gals will end up switching clothing or losing it all together.

Finally, I hope to see you all there and I expect this party to be well attended as it will be the LAST PARTY at Nate and Mikelle's house and I know that everyone had fun at one of their parties, because I know that I had a blast at almost everyone.

Anyways, take care everyone and I will see you all at the party.

Sincerely, your one and only,

-JoshMan Miles

8:30PM - A simple update...

Well, its been a few weeks, since my last REAL update, so I thought I would update everyone on what has been going on with Josh Miles. Lets see, where to start...First off, things are going...good! I am really excited that things aren't just going, alright or okay, but the fact that they are going good, dare I say, great?!

First off, school is going well up here. I have decided to spend a little more time up here this quarter, so that I can get to know more people and Bellingham, as I might be moving up here next year. Earlier this evening I went and checked out a house, which was awesome. It is a sweet house for parties, specifically, I would love to have a nice dinner party. The type where you have people dress up in nice attire and and serve a nice meal with a good glass of wine. Oh...man that would be so sweet!

Secondly, this past weekend, I went into Seattle and I had a blast! I was able to spend a lot of time with my family and even more time hanging out with friends throwing back some beers and just shooting the sh*t.

Thirdly, the main reason I believe that things are going better, is because I have found a group of friends, who I can hang out with outside of classes and actually do stuff on the weekend and afternoons.

Finally, I am just really content with where things are now. Granted, I know life will probably start throwing me curveballs and all I can do is learn to catch them and throw them back where they came from.

Anyways, I sure hope that everyone else is doing well and I will catch you all on the flip side.

6:37PM - A mid-month update...

Well, its been awhile since my last update on LJ, so I thought I would update all of those, who still read/skim over this what has been going on in the life of JoshMan Miles.

First off, I finished my second quarter up at Western and I must say that last quarter sure was intense, however, I know all of my hard work will pay off. Secondly, this coming quarter should be a little quieter, at least I hope so...

I am still working at Safeway, however, I have officially transfered back to the Produce department and loving every moment of it.

On the social front, things are going fine. I am still playing ultimate every chance I get, and and I am loving playing ultimate up at Western. I am seeing my abilities improve before my very eyes and I couldn't be more excited.

This past weekend, I went camping with a bunch of friends and had a great time, besides having a lot of things on my mind.

I am realizing more and more that stressing and worrying doesn't get me anywhere, nor does it do me any good, however, I am finding that I am still doing it and I really NEED to stop doing it, because it just makes me more exhausted and just makes things seem strange for the people around me. However, I am finding myself becoming more and more independent and actually stressing about stuff A LOT LESS than I use to, so hopefully, this is just a phase or habit I can break or grow out of. Given, I probably will always look out for others and do all of the positive "worrying" or caring that I do, just not do the NEGATIVE kind of worrying.

Anyways, that is all that I have to report for now, but I hope to see you all sooner than later and I wish you all the best of luck in whatever you do this coming Spring.

10:50PM - Eight new police officers inducted Monday: By Tom Callis

Well, my roommate, Tom Callis has written his first report for WWU's Paper, The Western Front and I must say that it is a pretty interesting article, so if you have 5 minutes you should read it, especially those who live up here in Bellingham.

Eight new police officers inducted Monday

By Tom Callis

January 13, 2006

Eight new police officers were sworn in at Bellingham’s City Council meeting Monday by Finance Director Therese Holm and Police Chief Randall Carroll. Officers’ families as well as other members of the police department were present at city hall for the ceremony.

“This is an outstanding group of young men who will serve the city well,” said Carroll.

The newly inducted officers were hired on Jan. 1 in order to fill five new positions created by the city and three positions left vacant by retiring officers. This would increase the number of patrol officers to 64 and commission officers to 109.

The department created these new positions to help manage a 3 percent per year increase in call load due to the rising Bellingham population. Due to the increase in calls, the department is no longer responding to alarms, accidents and traffic collisions when there is no report of a crime or injury.

Compared to five years ago, an officer today must respond to 17 percent more calls. Carroll said that the increase in calls has hindered the department’s ability to provide responsive service to all areas of the city.

“Public safety is a number one priority,” said Bellingham Mayor Mark Asmundson. “We have to keep up with the growing population and increase in call loads.”

Sheriff Carey James of the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Department has also expressed a need for increasing his staff. James said the department is intended to have one officer per 1,000 people living in the county. With 182,000 people in the county the department is understaffed with its 79 commission officers.

The department has experienced an overall increase of arrests with a jail population that is 6.4 percent larger than it was one year ago. Since every officer has to be present at the trial of the person they arrested, an increase of arrests would mean more officers making court appearances and fewer officers present in the community at one time, said James.

“We would like to see the staff grow to provide better service for the people,” said James.

I hope you all enjoy reading this and I am sure if you have any feedback, Tom would be very appreciative.

11:44AM - Recently.

Well, I have gotten through a week and a half of classes, however, I need to start sleeping better, because for some reason all week I have been exhausted, which isn't good for a number of reasons. I think what my problem is that on the surface I seem to have things sorted out, however, deep down I am stressing and secondly, I wouldn't be surprised if it was how I was eating, because the food up here is pretty good, but I should try and at least eat a little better. Thirdly, it has been a long week and I know that all I need to do is relax and really focus on whats important, school and my health.

Anyways, I hope things for everyone else is going well and I will talk to you all sooner than later.

10:52AM - 2005 Year in Review.

Well, now that 2005 is over and done with, I have decided to look forward to 2006 and all that it will bring. However, before I look forward I thought I would take a look at 2005 and what really changed me and other random stuff that stuck with me.

First off, and probably the biggest thing that happened was both graduationg from North Seattle Community College and getting my AA degree. Of course, concerning school, I also got accepted to Western and was able to spend one quarter up here before the year ended.
For the most part it went well, I realized just how much, I love and missed Seattle and still do (specifically last night).

Lets see what else went on in 2005...My parents decided to add a second story to our house and construction finished up this past Decemeber and they are finally getting back into the swing of things, which is nice.

Then on the ultimate scene, I continued to play with Moby Flick and felt like I was really a team member when I got myself an official Moby jersey, which just plain rocked and then got to wear it when Moby went down to Chico, CA. to play in a tournament called Disco's Calientes, while also visiting my aunt and uncle, whose house I had never been to. I also started playing ultimate up here at Western this past Fall quarter and even went to my first college tournament, and actually played pretty decent from my stand point.

I even got into some different art mediums, such as painting, while also taking 3-d and 2-d art up here at Western, where I learned to work with cardboard, plaster and other random meduims I hadn't used since grade school.
I also started drinking a lot more, but that is to be expected in college, heh. I also got really into politics, mainly, because Nick Nelson and my roommmate got into many debats online and I really wanted to know, just what the hell they were talking about, which I feel made me a more interesting person.

I also met a bunch of new random people such as, Tom (my roommate up at Western), Doug (my suitemate), Jen (Tom's girlfriend), Jamie( a random checker from a California Safeway), a bunch of random cats in my dorm and on the ultimate field. What was very interesting what that I made a real connection with everyone that I met and even got Tom and Jen to attend Jen's first New Years party, which was awesome.

Now, concerning world events that really stuck with me, The Bird Flu Epidemic, ALL of the hurricanes (by all I mean ALL 6), all of the controversy concerning Bush and his staff. I know there were more events which occured, but those are the 3 big ones that come to mind right now.

Anyways, this review took me 3 times to actually try and sit down and write and this time it just felt like it was going to work. Well, Winter Quarter has started up here at Western and eventhough I miss Seattle a lot, especially all of my friends and family, who for some reason I got really close with this break than any other point in my life, I know that being up here in Bellingham will make me a more interesting person, who will always be welcome in Seattle.

I hope to talk to you all sooner than later and I will try and be in town as much as I can as the weekends up here are pretty dull and quite, which is probably why I love coming into town on the weekends, heh.

2:21PM - With the end of one thing comes the beginning of another.

Well, I just finished my last final of the quarter about 20 minutes ago and it went pretty well. Overall, I am really relieved that this quarter is over, yet at the same time surprised at how fast this quarter went by. I am still dumbfounded about how this quarter is already over. All in all it was a good quarter. I got to play ultimate with a new men's team up here at Western, who goes by the name, Dirt. I start learning how to swing dance, but got really busy and lazy after awhile. I also started playing video games more often and only spent, maybe 3 weekends up here at school. I love Seattle too much. I am gald that my roommate and I got along so well and learned to have things in common. Tom is a cool guy and it will work out just fine during these next two quarters.

Overall my finals went well. Both of my final critiques in my art classes went well and my final for my Visual Dialogue final went fairly well, it was a little bit tougher than I thought it would be, but nothing that I couldn't handle. I sure hope that all of my hard work pays off this quarter and that I can work even harder next quarter and aspire to get even better grades than this quarter.

It's strange, but after moving in and then packing up all of my stuff, it feels like I spend a few months at some kind of camp. I know that sounds strange, but that is what it has felt like.

Anyways, I hope you all did well on your finals and to those who still have finals keep up the hard work and the best of luck with your finals.

Take care everyone and I will talk to you all sooner than later.

2:47PM - A realization.

Last night after talking with a very strange woman, I realized that I need to stop letting fear rule my life. For instance, if I make a mistake people aren't going to look down on me, they will just expect me to not make it the next time. Secondly, girls may or may not have interest in me, if they do that is great and if not, I shouldn't think that I am less of a man or a person for that matter. Finally, things always work out for the best and I shouldn't worry about a problem that could happen, but rather worry about a problem that is ACTUALLY happening in the here and now.

Anyways, I appreciate those who read this. I hope you all have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

3:06PM - There is a first time for everything...

Well, I just got back from my first college ultimate frisbee tournament and it was a blast! I made some mistakes and cost my team the last game, but I know that deep down I did my best, eventhought on the surface I am kicking myself for not being more assertive. I now know that I am going to have the push myself if I want to improve my ultimate skills and knowledgele. Anyways, this tournament was a blast. The first day my went 1 and 3, winning one and losing 3, however, today we went 2 and 1, which was really awesome.

Anyways, things in general have been going well, much better than Thursday. It is such a relief. Well, there are only a few weeks of schoo left and I know that it is going to be a lot of work, however, I know all of my hard work will pay off.

I hope you all are doing well and I can't wait to get back to Seattle and see all of you, so until then take care of yourselves.

9:52PM - It always seems Darkest before Dawn...

Well, it has been awhile, since my last post and I thought I might update you all on what has been going on and do some writing to make me feel a little better. Anyways, today just hasn't been my day. First off, I didn't get much sleep, then I went to my 3-D design class and while I was working on my plaster project, it cracked in half, which meant I had to start all over, which was really irritating and a bit depressing. I was pretty casual about telling my teacher and he was surprised that I didn't freak out. Of course crying and whinning wasn't going to repair my project, so I just took an unused block and started a new. Then, in my 2-D design class we were working on a simple perspective assignment, which took me so long to get and I got so frustrated, which didn't help, however, my teacher and fellow students at my table were really patient in helping me, which was very nice of them. Then after I finished checking my mail, I went to walk out what I thought was a door, but it was a large window, which I proceeded to walk right into.
Finally, Tom (my roommate) and Jen his girlfriend went out for Pho and I was dissapointed because there wasn't any Thai Iced Tea, the food wasn't very filling and there weren't even any creme puffs, which is as much a part of the meal as the noodles are, at least in my opinion. Then while we were waiting for our food, I thought I would use a quarter to get some M and M's, and I only got 1 piece of candy for a whole quarter and it wasn't even that good.

I have also been stressing about relationships way too much, which I really shouldn't do. I guess, it is just a bit depressing that all of the girls I meet, I either have no interest, or the ones who seem cool are way too busy for me. Lately, I have been working on just meeting people, which is going well, however, I tend to get ahead of myself think things will work out even before we hang out more than a few times.

I am also really exhausted, mainly because school and frisbee are really kicking my ass. I shouldn't be as surprised about how much work Western is, but I am pulling off a B average so far, which is pretty good at least in my opinion.

I am pretty excited, because this weekend is my first Ultimate Tournament with Dirt and I sure hope I play well. I guess all I can do is my best, because that is all that anyone can ask.

I know that things will look up for me, but it sure is hard when you have a bad day.

Well, that is all I have to report for now, so take care of yourselves and I will catch you all on the flip side.

1:59PM - One minor request...

Hey ya'll, I have one minor request concerning the Halloween party, which will be happening next Friday, October 28th around 9pm at Mikelle's house. That request is, those of you who can LEGALLY buy alcohol, I would be much appreciated if you could bring some, because last time I was the only person who bought alcohol and we went through a ton of alcohol within 2 hours, so that means the more alcohol the more fun everyone can have.

I appreciate those who can help and I will see you all next Friday. Take care of yourselves, from your one and only,

Alright, we all know that sometime last Spring Laymans Terms decided that they all wanted to do some new things, so they decided to separate, however, they are all still in the musical scene and I have some interesting and exciting info for all of your Laymans Terms fans. Dylan Atari, yes, the checker, who works at Safeway has joined a band with the first drummer of Laymans Terms, whose name is coincidentally Dylan also, and the bands name is, J-Minus.

Here is a link and I hope you all check them out, because they rock, seriously. www.jminus.com

5:12PM - Finally...an update at Western....

Well, I am all moved into my dorm room and there are a few things to report,

-Classes started last week and I think I am going to enjoy them.
-I also finally have the internet, which I am really psyched about.
-My roommate and suitemates are really cool.
-There are a lot of cool people in my dorm area, which also rocks.
-I attended the first practice for Western's Men's Ultimate team, Dirt, and I couldn't be more excited.
-I got a new laptop, which rocks. (Granted I have to pay my parents back for a portion, but they are
cool and letting me get the money to them whenever possible.)
-I also found out that I wont get kicked off campus for only taking 9 credits, however, next quarter I will make sure to take at least 12, so that I don't look like I am a slacker.

Well, that is all that I have to report, other than I miss Seattle, but I will be back ASAP. Take care of yourselves and I will hopefully see or hear form you sooner than later.
